Buying Property in Florida

Florida offers tremendous real estate opportunities for both investment property and holiday homes, being located in South Eastern USA. It is a long, low peninsula between the Atlantic Ocean on the Eastern seaboard and the Gulf of Mexico to the west. Florida’s neighbours are Georgia and Alabama, and there has been a great deal of real estate activity during its history:

In 1881 Florida sold 4,000,000 acres of land to real-estate promoters. Northern capitalists built railroads and hotels, and Florida began to develop. The drainage of the Everglades, begun in 1906, precipitated one of the state's periodic land booms. Because of environmental degradation due to farming these drained lands, areas are now being restored to their natural state through reflooding.

The most famous of Florida's land booms started after World War I and reached its peak in 1925. The Florida peninsula is warmed by surrounding subtropical and tropical waters, and cooled by the trade winds. Of course Florida is famous for its pleasant climate, year round sunshine and the marvellous coastal scenery. Central Florida abounds in lakes, with Lake Okeechobee being the largest.

The famed Everglades, which includes Big Cypress Swamp, is a unique wilderness region of subtropical plant growth and animal life and covers the centre of the southern part of the peninsula. Florida's SW coast, on the Gulf of Mexico, is dotted with tiny islands, and the Florida Keys, extending south and west from the southern tip of the state, are linked to the mainland by a causeway.

Because of its marvellous climate, Florida is a number one destination for retirees of all nationalities but, in spite of that, it is a very vital state with an active economy that suits real estate investors of all kinds. There is much to see and do for the vacationer in Florida in terms of its natural beauty, but also man-made attractions such as Disneyworld Orlando and Cape Canaveral which is home to the Kennedy Space Centre.

Florida is well-known for its citrus fruits, and is first in the US in the production of oranges, grapefruits, tangerines, and market-ready corn and tomatoes. Agricultural activity includes sugarcane, many varieties of winter vegetables, cattle and dairy products. Commercial fishing is a significant industry. Naturally, the serious real estate investor looks first for a healthy economy whether he is looking to invest in property for sale or property for rent and Florida certainly has that: on top of its agricultural and manufacturing industries,

Florida’s wonderful climate ensures significant tourism each year. Tallahassee is the capital, but Jacksonville is largest city in the state. Jacksonville is considered one of the most important Southern centres of commerce, finance, and insurance on the Atlantic coast. While Miami is looked on as the gateway to trade with South America.
